I got my passion for carriage driving through my Grandparents who enjoyed competing through the 80s and 90s. From a young age I went with them to as many competitions as possible and was determined to follow them into the sport.

Aged 12 I started to compete at local events and enjoyed many successes. At 14 I competed at national novice level events including the National Championships that year.

When I was 15, I spent the summer holidays grooming for Emily Bennett at international driving competitions in Europe including a World Championship and this really inspired me to aim for top level competition in the future. At home I had a young horse who I produced myself and at 17 I was competing with Theo at senior national open level and held my own amongst the countries best single horse drivers. That year I also won the Junior National Championships driving a pony owned by John Garlick.

Since then, my career has continued to grow, there have been ups and downs and quieter periods due to time spent building an equestrian business to support my career. Over the years I have been fortunate to train with several successful drivers and knowledgeable horse people and have developed a structured training system to develop horses through to the top of the sport.

I have competed Nationally and Internationally with 2019 being my most successful year to date with me representing Great Britain at the Combined Pony Driving World Championship at Kisber Azsar in Hungary where I finished in 21st place.

With Covid, illness in my top pony and then moving yards I unfortunately haven’t competed for a few years but with some promising youngsters in the yard I hope to be back competing soon.

The Goal and My Motivation

I aim to be able to compete at international level on a regular basis and represent Great Britain at more World Championships in the future, progressing towards a medal position.

As much as I am a very competitive person and love to compete at the bigger competitions, I really enjoy the training process, developing a partnership with my horses and seeing them grow in confidence and ability. I strongly believe that our competitive aspirations should never be at a cost to the horse’s welfare and quality of life so as I train and compete towards future success this is always the top priority.

Sponsorship

I am extremely grateful for the support I receive from sponsors which helps me to continue to train and compete.

If you or your company are interested in discussing myself becoming a brand ambassador, then please get in touch. The brands and companies I work with I truly value and believe in, so can fully testify for their products.

Baileys Horse Feeds- I have worked with the Baileys Horse Feeds Team and fed solely their feeds for 10 years, the feeding system they use is simple yet so effective. The ponies have never looked or felt so good, and I wouldn’t use any other feed brands.

Bennington Carriages- As a competitor its important to have the right tools for the job and as drivers the carriage is a massive part of this. Bennington Carriages are built to a very high standard in Britain with state-of-the-art engineering to help me maximise my performance and the horse’s comfort. Not only do I use their carriages in competition but also in training and whilst teaching.

Ownerships and Syndicates

To continue to grow in the sport I am keen to explore options such as competing horses or ponies owned by others and developing syndicates which are commonplace in other equestrian disciplines.

You may have a horse that you feel needs a professional to get the best out of it or you may wish to see how far that horse can go in the sport! Equally if you are interested in an ownership, partnership or syndicate then after discussing the requirements I can look for a suitable horse or pony.

Ownerships and syndicates are a great opportunity for likeminded people to be a valued part of a fun team and enjoy the sport at elite level.  It’s exciting to watch and be involved with a horse’s journey from novice through to national or even international level often opening opportunities to travel to some of the most prestigious events in the UK and around Europe.
